Written by published author and playwright, Becky Hill Martin, Murder in the Key of Motown is the tale of Jack Russell and the Terriers, a washed-up Motown band still trying to get gigs in the 1980s. Audiences are invited to put on their platforms or bring their legwarmers and sing along with the band as they attempt to perform snippets of Top 40 hits in the style of artists from Motown to the totally awesome ’80s. JR (Tommy Kobeck) and his band members, Gabe Marvin (Walt Herrington), Patti Vandell(Wendie Sheppard), Delia Ross (Alahna Stewart) and Rhetta James (Becky Martin), are guaranteed to hit a few high notes when they quarrel over who gets the spotlight and who gets the girl. The backup singers get vocal after the audience chooses the winner of the Sing Off. Any hope of harmony is dashed when the show turns into a very limited engagement for one band member.
Mississippi Murder Mysteries, a professional murder mystery troupe based in Jackson, has been entertaining audiences throughout the region for almost ten years. They specialize in performing original, comedic murder mystery dinner theater at public and private venues. Custom-designed productions are also available.
