Balance class offered

Ridgeland Recreation & Parks is offering a Balance & Fall-Proof Your Life class every Wednesday, beginning Jan. 21, from 11-11:30 a.m. Cost of the class is $30 for six week course/or $8/class. If you have had a history of falling, this class will teach you how to regain your balance with more control than ever. Sign up today for this class in the latest in fall prevention, balance exercises and Total Body strengthening that will keep you one step ahead in improving your life. Learn Tai-Chi

Ridgeland Recreation & Parks is offering a Tai-Chi Fusion on the Reservoir every Wednesday morning, beginning Jan. 21, 11:30 a.m.-noon. This class meets at the Ridgeland Recreation Center, located at Old Trace Park. Cost of class is $8 per class or $30 for six week course. Tai-Chi has become an increasingly popular form of physical exercises around the world as a basic exercise program and as a complement to health care methods. A few of the benefits are: increased flexibility and reduced risk of injury, focused breathing and concentration, improves mind-body connection, greater strength and stamina, better balance and stability, improved posture, stress reduction, and much more. Distinguished Young Women group

Madison County DYW program is starting a Has Been organization for all former contestants and winners who live in Madison County (and may have competed in another county or state) or participated in the Madison County Program. January dance planned

Magnolia Ballroom Dancers’ Association will hold its January dance, “Black and White Ball,” on Saturday, Jan. 10, 7:30-10:30 p.m. at the Madison Square Center for the Arts, 2103 Main St., Madison. Dance instructor Percell St. Thomass will teach a DanceKinesis workshop before the dance, 6:45-7:30 pm. He will also perform a dance exhibition during the dance.

Cost for the dance is $10 for members and $15 for guests. The workshop is an additional $5 for members and for guests. No partner is required. BYOB; drinks and setups provided. Dress is “elegantly casual.” No shorts, t-shirts, blue jeans, sneakers, flip flops, or ball caps please.
